An Ayrton Senna exhibition has opened at the Lamborghini Museum in the Italian city of Bologna, featuring a display of every single-seater race car driven by the late Brazilian champion as well as a moving photographic tribute of his life.
Ayrton Senna: the Man and the Legend commemorates his 1993 test drive at Estoril in a McLaren MP4/8 fitted with a Lamborghini V12 engine. The team was assessing a potential works partnership with Lamborghini’s then-parent company, Chrysler, but ultimately opted for a disastrous partnership with Peugeot that only lasted the 1994 season.
Stefano Domenicali, the former Scuderia Ferrari team principal and current Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Automobili Lamborghini, yesterday welcomed media to the official presentation of the exhibition.
He was joined by Ercole Colombo and Giorgio Terruzzi, curators of the photographic record, and Mauro Forghieri and Daniele Audetto, who attended the famous test drive. Former Grand Prix drivers Riccardo Patrese and Pierluigi Martini – who both competed extensively against Senna – were also in attendance.
