2017 was the 40th anniversary of Riccardo's F1 debut at the Monaco GP and to mark the occasion we created #PatreseF140 on social media. Using this hastag we posted a series of images to highlight key races illustrating Riccardo's road to F1 ending with the Monaco GP on the 22nd May.
2017 was also the 40th anniversary of the Williams team in F1 and in June Riccardo joined his former team at Silverstone. Williams team members past and present joined the Williams family and thousands of fans to see on-track displays and a pit lane full of cars showcasing four decades of grand prix engineering. Also, while at Silverstone, Riccardo experienced the beer mat challenge!
Unfortunately, due to injury, Riccardo could not attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year (video message) which was particularly disappointing as Bernie Ecclestone would be honoured, and the Williams FW14B was running. However Riccardo did get to join the Williams team at the Monaco GP and have dinner with Bernie in November before attending an exhibition celebrating 50 years of Gordon Murray's vehicle engineering and design.
Riccardo's son Lorenzo featured on the website this year as he was competing in the Trofeo Easykart, and we followed his progress as he earned a win and a number of podiums on the way to finishing second in the championship. Bravo Lorenzo!
2017 was a big year for the website itself as we re-launched in April with a new design and layout. This was the fifth version of the site since it was created in 1999 and we are grateful that we have been able to add new images this year thanks to Larry Roberts, Roberto Gnudi, Alcide Boaretto, Simone Santini, and Archivio Giorgio Nada Editore. Special thanks must also go to Nick Forsythe for his contributions. We are also delighted to have showcased the new Concierge travel guide for F1, launched this year by Monica Head Colombelli.
Thank you to all website contributors & visitors and we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
